This year’s reunion will be held in Norfolk, VA.   By the time the reunion kicks off there will be no less than 5 breweries and two distilleries within the area for us to enjoy.  Plenty of museums like the NauticusPortsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, The Light Ship and many others to spend time touring between our reunion festivities.  For shopping, we have McArthur Mall just a short walk from the hotel and dozens of other shops throughout downtown Norfolk.  Restaurants, great night life and on the water front fun will make this destination hard to beat.
The hotel is the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.

Anyone that comes in a day early will still get the discounted rooms.  If the interest is there we will open the hospitality room a day early.

The hospitality room will be open early on Thursday.  Check in here when you arrive and let us know you are here, pickup your welcome packet, and say hello to old friends.
In the evening, we will gather and take a short two block walk to the ferry where we will cross the water to Portsmouth’s old town district.
pictureThere we will be escorted by “Colonel Crawford” who will tell us the story of the founding of Portsmouth and what the area was like during the revolutionary war.  He will ensure we stop often at “historical watering holes” to keep us hydrated. This walk will be ending at the local Diver (navy) owned tavern.  Then we will ride the Ferry back to Norfolk.  (or a reasonable Uber for those who don’t want to walk)

There are so many great things to do in Norfolk.  We will not have to get into a car the whole time we are here.  However, for those who come for the golf tournament, we will be making the 45-minute trek to The Pines golf course on  Fort Eustis Friday morning at 0800.  Be there at 0730 for registration and start instructions.  There is a possibility of having a 12-person van for this trip, if we have the interest.  Then burgers at the Diver’s new building for lunch.  This will be your chance to see the latest equipment and speak directly with the current active duty divers. Please keep in mind that the tour could be canceled at any time due to mission requirements. the golfers are out on the links playing golf, there will be a wine tasting back in Norfolk.  The wine tasting will be at Tinto’s Wine and Cheese in the early afternoon.  This is just a few short blocks from the hotel, right on the water front.  Come sample some great wines from all around Virginia.
Then it’s back to Norfolk for the historically awesome Diver Friday night Social which starts at 1700.  For those of you coming from Fort Eustis and worried about the drive there will be a charter bus for the evening leaving and returning to Fort Eustis (dependent on the amount of interest).
For this year’s social we are also holding a “MAKERS FAIR” where vendors such as Lulu Roe, Origami Owl, and hopefully a few others can show and sell their wares. This will give our spouses something to do while we tell diving stories.  Anyone who would like to have a table at this event or any time during the reunion please contact me.

Saturday morning is time to recover.  Once you have sufficiently recovered from Friday’s festivities take the time to explore Norfolk and the surrounding area.  However, don’t wear yourself out as Saturday is the Semi-Formal dinner at the Marriott Hotel. We will use this time to dress up a little and sit down to a nice meal while we visit with our diving buddies.  The dinner starts at 1900.

Time to say goodbye to old and new friends so we will have a pancake and hold our General Membership Meeting.   Come by grab a bite to eat and find out where the location for the next reunion, the new board members and basically help us keep the lights on at the US Army Divers Association.

If there is anything you would like to see at the reunion, please let me know.
Many people have allergies to different foods and other products.  Please let me know a head of time so I can make arrangements if necessary to have alternate foods prepped.
We will do our best to accommodate.
